Mounting An Orchid: A Step-By Step Guide For Making Stunning Displays

Orchids can be displayed beautifully by mounting them. This step-by-step instruction will help you mount your orchid:

Choose a mountable orchid. Since they grow on trees, epiphytic orchids like Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, and Dendrobium are perfect for this strategy.

1

Select the Right Orchid

A mounting board, sphagnum moss, orchid potting mix, wire or fishing line, scissors, and a spray bottle are needed.

2

Gather Materials

Cork bark and wooden planks should be clean and dry. You may need to pre-drill holes in the mounting board to hold the orchid with wire or hooks.

3

Prepare the Mounting Board

Untangle the roots and gently remove the orchid from its pot. Trim dead or damaged roots with sanitized scissors. A small trim can shorten lengthy roots.

4

Prepare the Orchid

Spread damp sphagnum moss on the orchid mounting board. Place the orchid's roots on the moss with the plant facing your desired direction.

5

Attach the Orchid to the Mount

Gently attach the orchid to the mounting board with wire, fishing line, or plant ties. Avoid damaging the roots and stems when wrapping the wire or line around the plant

6

Secure the Orchid

Add sphagnum moss to moisten and protect exposed roots. This layer keeps roots hydrated and supports mount adhesion.

7

Add More Sphagnum Moss

After mounting, submerge the orchid and setup in water. Drain excess water, then set the mounted orchid in bright, indirect light. Mist the plant or use a humidity tray
