Georgia high school shooting suspect and his father make first court appearances, do not enter pleas

This Monday, a 14-year-old Apalachee High School student and his father were charged with a shooting that killed two pupils and two teachers.

Colt Gray was arraigned in Barrow County on four counts of felony murder after a school massacre that devastated a small community.

Judge Currie Mingledorff advised Gray of his rights and first suggested his potential penalty was death or life in prison.

He later brought Gray back into the courtroom to correct the maximum penalty, reminding the kid that his young age might result in life in jail with or without parole.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Gray killed four individuals on campus Wednesday morning with an AR-style weapon. Nine more were injured.

Colin Gray, 54, was arraigned on four involuntary manslaughter charges, two of second-degree, minutes after his son was hauled out of the courtroom.

The US Supreme Court banned the execution of minors in 2005. The teen's attorney did not request bond during the hearing.

Colin Gray entered the courtroom cuffed in a white and gray jumpsuit and rocked as the judge read him his rights.

As he spoke in court, his voice broke. Colin Gray, like his son, did not request bond during his initial hearing with a public lawyer.
