Super Typhoon Yagi hits China’s Hainan, killing two people and forcing 1 million to leave their home

Super Typhoon Yagi, Asia's biggest storm this year, hit northern Vietnam on Saturday, killing at least four people after ravaging Hainan and the Philippines.

Super Typhoon Yagi slammed island areas of north Vietnam at about 1pm (0600 GMT) with winds up to 160kph (99mph) near its center, after losing power in Hainan a day earlier.

The authorities reported four deaths and 78 injuries from the typhoon as of 5pm. State media reported another dozen missing at sea.

Yagi emerged east of the Philippines earlier in the week and killed at least two people in Hainan and 16 in the Philippines, its first country.
