According to court documents, he pleaded not guilty and was denied pretrial release. At his July 18 arraignment, Sangamon County Judge Ryan Cadagin said:
“Not only is there clear and convincing evidence that he has committed a detention-eligible offense, he is a community risk.”
Grayson's counsel stated at his arraignment that the former deputy had stage 3 colon cancer and was hospitalized for a month and a half late last year for a colostomy.
Grayson joined the US Army in 2013 and served for three years, according to his attorney. Discharged for “misconduct (serious offense),”
After serving as a private first class in Fort Riley, Kansas, Grayson was discharged under a general discharge. The misbehavior was not detailed in the documentation.
