This month, a sheriff's officer fatally shot 36-year-old Black Sonya Massey at her Illinois home. Her family wants an investigation into his hiring.

Concerning documents showing he worked at six police enforcement agencies in four years and was charged with DUI twice.

The July 6 shooting at Massey's Springfield house resulted in first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct.

According to court documents, he pleaded not guilty and was denied pretrial release. At his July 18 arraignment, Sangamon County Judge Ryan Cadagin said:

“Not only is there clear and convincing evidence that he has committed a detention-eligible offense, he is a community risk.”

Grayson joined the US Army in 2013 and served for three years, according to his attorney. Discharged for “misconduct (serious offense),”

After serving as a private first class in Fort Riley, Kansas, Grayson was discharged under a general discharge. The misbehavior was not detailed in the documentation.
